CHILDREN'S FALL 2008 SCHEDULE
After School Art programs and day classes encourage creativity and self-expression through supervised arts exploration building important skills and utilizing a wide variety of materials and tools. Instructors are teaching at the age appropriate level working on projects within the students capacity. All classes will be held in Art Association classrooms located in the Center for the Arts building.
Registration, Refund & Credit Policy
Register online at www.artassociation.org, by calling 307.733.6379 or in person at 240 S. Glenwood in the Center for the Arts. Classes must be paid in full at time of registration. A 90% refund is given upon withdrawal prior to one week of class start date. No credits or refunds will be given to students who withdraw less than a week of class start date. Classes will be cancelled if a 6 student minimum is not met one week prior to class start date. When a class is cancelled, students are issued a full refund.
Register Early!
Registrations are accepted up to the first day of class as long as space is available. Space is assigned on a first come, first-served basis and registrations must be accompanied by full payment. It is recommended to register early as many classes often are filled to capacity.

Let’s get funky pulling one-of-a-kind prints on our very own gelatin work stations! The texture from this surface is like nothing else and allows for flexible painting in a new and exciting way. While results of gelatin monotypes can mimic a variety of printmaking techniques, the gelatin possesses its own unique characteristics, lending itself to extensive experimentation!
OCTOBER 2, 9, 16 & 23: MIXED MEDIA MAYHEM
WITH VALERIE SEABERG
Catch up with your own creative impulses and express yourself through a combination of your favorite 3D media, including random weaving, clay, fabric, paint, wire, beads and more! This exciting 4-week hands-on workshop will encourage kids to think outside the box and explore scale, color and form through nature-inspired designs. Project ideas and instruction will be constant for those preferring direction, while the more free-spirited artists will be guided through possible approaches and encouraged to explore new directions.
OCTOBER 30, NOVEMBER 6, 13 & 20: STORYBOOK ILLUSTRATION
WITH ERIN O'CONNOR
Learn how to tell your stories through art! Stories will be read aloud with attention to the illustrations that are so essential to the excitement of each adventurous tale. We will discuss stories told by well-known illustrators and authors to inspire new ways of painting, drawing and collage techniques.

Explore new ways of thinking about seeing behind the lens. Create your own dynamic and powerful images using alternate perspectives and new ways of using light and depth. Make your own visual dictionary, bringing a word to life through a series of close-ups or make up your own series in this 4-week workshop! Class size limited to 12 students. Cameras will be provided, or bring your own.

SEPTEMBER 24: COLOR SPLASH
Learn about the primary colors and how we can create new colors with “Mouse Paint!” We will experiment with complimentary colors too!
OCTOBER 1: KLIMT AND HIS CAT
Create your own painterly collage! Like Gustav Klimt, we will paint with patterns in mind using reflective papers, fabric, paint and ribbon.
OCTOBER 8: POTATO HEAD PORTRAITS
Inspired by Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and several famous artists, we will describe our features in these funny paper faces with our own creative touch.
OCTOBER 15: TODAY I WILL FLY
If pigs could fly…does Piggy actually fly? Find out, then tell your own story of the skies through a variety of colors and textures and make your own silly bugs and beautiful butterflies!

NOVEMBER 5: ANIMAL ARTISTRY
Let’s enjoy each letter of the alphabet paired with a brilliant, carved animal from the Mexican Folk Art tradition found in the book, “ABeCedarios,” then make our own A-B-C art!
NOVEMBER 12 : STARRY NIGHT
Van Gogh is most famous for his paintings rich in color and texture. Today we will create our own star inspired images.
NOVEMBER 19: I AIN'T GONNA PAINT NO MORE
“One day my mama caught me paintin’ pictures on the floor, ceiling, walls and door”….Feel free in our mess-friendly studio to experiment with different ways of moving paint up and down and all around.
DECEMBER 3: THERE'S A MONSTER UNDER MY BED
Creatures great and small we aspire to imagine and create them all! Make your own air-dry clay creatures and draw the place where they may be hiding!
DECMBER 10: WHEN PIGASSO MET MOOTSIE
Bold colors and painted patterns made Henri Matisse famous, but did you know he painted using paper cut-outs as he grew old? We will create our own “modern art mess” using paper cut-outs, paint and other funky food textures. |

Little Hands, Little Feet classes focus on age-appropriate fun, mucky, messy, gooey projects that slowly introduce children to the fundamentals of making art. Each week’s theme is based on a different book from the Children’s Library. All supplies are included.
SESSION I
SEPTEMBER 23 & 24: CAT'S COLORS
Cats know color best today! With all the colors in the rainbow to choose from, you will make your own crazy cat in a cool color!
SEPTEMBER 30 & OCTOBER 1: MOUSE PAINT
Today is a day of mixing colors! Learn from the mice how to mix your colors then use your own palette of the primary colors to see where it takes you.
OCTOBER 7 & 8: I SPY SHAPES IN ART
Lets look at the many different ways shapes can be used by famous artists then explore the use of these shapes and how they can be arranged to create our own mixed media masterpieces!
OCTOBER 14 & 15: TODAY I WILL FLY
Not everything is always as it seems as the bunny demonstrates with what looks like a box to me! Today we will explore different ways of moving paint and making our mark inside and out of the box.
OCTOBER 21 & 22: THE RAINBOW FISH
As we swim under the sea, we will see the rainbow fish and his beautiful shining scales. Can I have just one? Today you will print your own fishes with shining scales surrounded by a colorful watercolor sea.

NOVEMBER 4 & 5: BROWN BEAR, BROWN BEAR WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Animals in brilliant colors, big and small, Eric Carle introduces the colors best of all! We will explore texture and mixing primary colors in our own paintings and paper collages.
NOVEMBER 11 & 12 : ART DOG
How does this dog save the day? With wild strokes of color, moving paint around in every way!
NOVEMBER 18 & 19: CITY LULLABY
Today we explore the city through colorful shapes and exciting noises to count. Just enough to inspire great abstract art of our own!
DECEMBER 2 & 3: I SPY AN ALPHABET IN ART
Let’s take a look at how letters can become subjects in our own creations using alphabet sponges and mixed media collage.

colored bubbles and make your own colorful paper windsock!
OCTOBER 4: LIFE AS A TREE
Grow your own tree from the ground up using a variety of techniques and
materials including real leaves! Design your own funky tree from a
template or free-style your own, then spice it up using paper cut-outs, fabric, and a few different printing techniques.
DECEMBER 13 : NATURE-INSPIRED WREATHS
Create your own beautiful wreath by stringing incredibly colorful and
textured fabric onto wire. Decorate using materials found in nature from
pine cones to sea shells and walk away with your own gift or decoration
for the holiday season!
