Make a book for a child you know, or get ready to publish. Many bestsellers began life as one book for one special child… Peter Rabbit was written for a nephew by his aunt. We will explore easy to read texts and basic storyboarding. Ginger will present an overview of the children’s publishing world: categories, submissions, query letters, agents and critique groups. From 3 - 5 pm Ginger will demonstrate and assist book making with paint, markers, photos and pictures. No art or writing experience needed. Bring one favorite children’s book to class. |

In this class students will use a step by step process of creating an illustration starting with ideas, doodles, sketches and ending up with a finished camera ready piece. Jocelyn will give demonstrations along the way showing how to develop an illustration and share her knowledge of the techniques and materials to work with. Jocelyn works primarily in watercolor and pen and ink but participants are welcome or encouraged to work in mediums of their choice or what they are comfortable with. Students can bring ideas of what they want to illustrate and/or we will brainstorm ideas in the class. Levels of any or all abilities are welcome. |

Learn about the materials and basic techniques that are the foundation of watercolor painting. This class is meant for those with no experience in the medium or artist who find watercolor frustrating and confusing. Kay will then introduce the Japanese Sumi-e techniques and learn the ancient art of Asian Brush Painting (Sumi-e) by studying “the Four Gentlemen” – bamboo, chrysanthemum, wild orchid, and plum blossom, time permitting, using ink (sumi), watercolor, bamboo brushes, and rice paper. Kay will show actual examples, have reference material available and demonstrate each subject. |
