Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings
Artspace Main Gallery: January 23 - March 4, 2009
Images of the Nazi book burnings continue to resonate in American political discourse and infuse literature, film, and popular culture. Those who depend upon the free access to information, who oppose book banning and censorship in schools, libraries, and bookshops, have invoked the symbolism of the 1933 conflagrations as an analogue to censorship and the suppression of the free exchange of ideas.

Greg McHuron and Jim Wilcox: "On Location"
Artspace Theater Gallery: November 21 - January 15, 2009
“En plein air,” French for “in the open air,” is a spontaneous art form with artists creating outdoors, responding to the immediacy of the moment and reflecting the excitement of the changing light, weather conditions and deepening shadows on canvas. McHuron and Wilcox, professional artists for more than 30 years, most often paint en plein. Jim Wilcox has perfected the use of light and color in his work, earning him high praise from art aficionados and critics alike. In 1973, McHuron moved to Jackson, Wyoming, to be close to the subjects he preferred to paint - primarily landscapes and wildlife. He exhibits his work in galleries throughout the United States and has been a member of the Society of Animal Artists since 1979.

Shannon Plumb: Paper Collection
Artspace Main Gallery: November 7, 2008 - January 19, 2009
Plumb’s film Paper Collection focuses on the characters in the fashion world. Portraying herself as model, photographer, magazine editor and fashionista. She delves into concepts of visual beauty and the nature of superficiality and portrays these characters with zest and humor. Inspired by the curious spirit of slapstick comedy and the physical humor of silent film legends such as Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, Plumb employs a low-fi aesthetic by using Super 8 film, stationary camera shots, long takes and hand made props.
