Drawing, Painting & Printmaking Studio
In this one-day class, students will learn to construct a Japanese stab binding. This sans-adhesive structure involves binding or wrapping individual leaves that are stacked together to create the book. The Japanese stab binding is perfect for combining a variety of materials and weights of pieces including digital prints, photographs, cloth, letterpress prints, and artwork made with other processes into a single book structure. Working from a provided materials kit, students will construct a Japanese stab bound book using plain paper in addition to learning how to apply this book structure to other materials. Students are encouraged to bring work to practice this binding in the studio.
