As I look out into this place I call home, it's hard for me not to think of a time before. I merge what is past and present both in life and in my work. I use the horse as a Western icon, something so vital at one point in our history. The mirror to our own evolution.

I try to put my wild heart and love of freedom into my paintings. I use all kinds of mediums including drawings on panels, oils on canvas, and monotype prints to express my ideas. Wildlife and man often intersect in funny ways. We often see wild animals in pristine natural landscapes, but where I live they are often interrupting our daily commute, or sleeping on our porch, or cooling off in a kiddie pool. How has the man made landscape influenced the behavior of these animals? And how does their behavior influence us?

This subject is the aurora borealis above the Tetons. I love the dynamic flow of paint when I paint the northern lights - it is so dramatic! I have been lucky enough to see northern lights twice in my life - once in Canada and once in Minnesota. We actually have had the northern lights come as far south as the Tetons once in a while, perhaps the last time was in 2015, a rare treat. My choice for subject matter for my paintings is often that which is rare, and inspiring. Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei coined the name "aurora borealis" in 1619 - after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek god of the north wind, Boreas.

This piece is my love letter to Jackson. As an avid hiker I find endless inspiration and healing on the trails. The cool mountain air, the views, and the time to ground myself in nature have become essential to my life and to my creativity. I have been studying, photographing, and admiring the flowers for twenty years.

Oil & Cold Wax on Cradled Panel

Chickadees grace my bird feeder with their spritely personality, cheerful call, and dramatic plumage. They make the long winter days far more pleasant with their constant chatter. In this piece I played with oil and cold wax using palette knives, breyers, and other tools to create texture. I wanted to capture motion, abstract patterns, and the magical light of a winters day.
