"To paraphrase a local saying: Came for the HIKING, stayed for the ART. I initially took a variety of classes at the Art Association - ceramics, printmaking, etc. - but was encouraged to continue with my painting with oils by meeting and sharing with fellow artists."

"I moved to Jackson in 2016 and rented a studio across the street from the Art Association. It has taken me this long to find the courage to show one of my paintings. I now hope to get involved because I believe the Art Association is a big part of the art community here in Jackson and I want to be a part of that community. I sincerely appreciate the variety of art classes, the yearly art fairs, the exhibitions offered to local artists and the installations of visiting artists that the Art Association provides to our community. I hope to become more involved with the Jackson Hole art community. There are encouraging yet only felt not seen welcome signs all over the place."

"The Art Association of Jackson Hole is an absolute gem of our community. They have served as a light in my life since I returned to the valley… from their warm, welcoming, kind and supportive staff, to all the amazingly well-coordinated events in which I have participated. I am extremely grateful for the community and all the avenues they offer to support local artists and the arts."

"For many years I have admired all that the Art Association has offered to our community. My daughters have participated in many classes over the years and enjoyed birthday parties hosted at A!A and I have always loved going to the art fairs and holiday markets. I have always had a creative hobby of one sort or another, but life became really full with working and raising kids. Now that my children are older and I have found a little more free time, I have become active in creating various works in the ceramics studio. Not only does my time in the studio give me the creative outlet that I have not exercised in many years, but it has also given me a chance to connect with a fantastic group of people - staff members and A!A members - who share creative ideas and a depth of knowledge that I so appreciate. In July I took a workshop with a visiting artist, Horacio Rodriguez to learn the technique of using a slump mold for creating ceramic wall sculptures. The foam-core mold I created in class was a bison skull. I was also introduced to the woodshop that allowed me to cut a larger wood mold that is more sustainable. I am very grateful for the opportunity to show my pieces in the A!A gallery and look forward to continuing my involvement with the Art Association."

"The Art Association of Jackson Hole has given me a sense of community. As an artist I work mostly alone, but being a member of the association has made me aware of and exposed to the greater art community and its artwork, as well as having the opportunity to share my own work. I appreciate as well, all of the programs the Association has to offer, and have attended several workshops to enhance my practice. The store stocks many supplies that I use which are otherwise not available in the area."

"The Jackson Hole Art Association is the heartbeat of the thriving Jackson art community. I joined 10 years ago to take many of the high-quality art classes offered here. Having never plein air painted, I took a wonderful 3-day watercolor class with Fred Kingwill. I learned so much and so enjoyed painting outside that I joined the Teton Plein Air Painters. Painting with TPAP is the highlight of my spring, summer and fall. I continue to take many workshops and painting classes with the Art Association. I've also enjoyed taking throwing classes, drawing classes, and life drawing with live models. There's always an opportunity to learn new techniques or just sharpen your art skills."

"Art Association JH has been here for my family for the 23 years we have been in Jackson. From helping my daughter with her passion to draw in 3rd grade to my empty nest fling with beeswax painting, there was always someone willing to assist. Any kind of art is hard to put out there and thankfully ArtAssociation is always here to encourage us to dream and create come rain, shine, or pandemic!"

"The Art Association made me feel welcomed to Jackson Hole when I moved here almost 35 years ago. At that time I became the Director of the Art Association and found my community. The seven years that I worked with the organization, we re-started the education program, serving other nonprofits, and began the initial concept of having a Center for the Arts. It was an exciting time. Since those very early years, I have taught, served on juries, exhibited, taken classes, and (in later jobs with pARTners and Central Wyoming College) collaborated with the Art Association. The arts are so critical to a community that I want to live in, and the Art Association welcomed and supported me as an artist."

"I first came to the Art Association of Jackson Hole to draw and paint portraits of the models who were working there. Then my friend and I branched out to paint with other artists out-of-doors in the plein air classes and with the Teton Plein Air Painters. I continued enjoying these activities and tried printmaking and a jewelry class. I love working with my friends and working with pencil, paint, metal, and printer ink!"

"Over many years, I have participated in TPAP and member exhibits at the Art Association (A!A) gallery along with the Whodunnit fundraiser. I have also attended week-long workshops led by famous painters, all this sponsored by the A!A. The Center is an easy walk from home and, to me, the heart and soul of Jackson. Besides being a vital resource for artists, the A!A is where others come to see art produced locally while they bring their kids to classes. Now they can wait in the wonderful art library in the loft. It's an oasis for the whole town."

AAJH has had many nationally-known artists come to Jackson to teach workshops which offered a great opportunity to learn from experienced artists! Rip Caswell, Marshall Vandruff and Nicolas Wilton are a few of the workshop artists that come to mind. Thank you AAJH!"

"My love affair with the Art Association in Jackson Hole first began in 2010. Newly retired, I took a handbuilding class from Valerie Seaberg. I've been committed to the Art Association ever since. Time spent in the studio has opened a whole world of creation for me that feeds my soul. The staff are always willing to help, the environment inspires, and the socialization with other artists provides me with a well-rounded outlet."

"Maybe you know the University of Michigan's Camp Davis, located about 20 miles south of Jackson? That is where I spent the summer of 1960 as a student, studying surveying and geology. I met my husband there. We married in 1963, so this is our 60th Anniversary also! The mountains have called us back many times in the years since. Trips with children and grandchildren included visits to the Art Association and the ArtFairs. While my family has climbed the Grand and other peaks, my longest hike was to Lake Solitude (the inspiration for this vessel)."

"In 2013, our family moved to Jackson to aid in our daughter's ski racing career. As she was reaching high school age, her schedule was becoming too complicated to continue to commute from Pinedale. I found Jackson to be quite clicky and difficult to make friends and be accepted, especially at middle age. I joined the Art Association in an attempt to meet people with similar interests and hopefully make friends. With a suggestion from some Art Association personnel, I found and joined the Teton Plein Air Painters (TPAP), which eventually became facilitated through the Art Association. This group became my salvation and helped me to stay grounded while in Jackson. Painting with this group on a regular basis also helped to improve my skills immensely. Now back in Pinedale, I remain a member to keep me connected with the local art scene and the TPAP group. The Art Association provides many opportunities for me to promote my art, which I try to take advantage of as much as possible."

"I've always had a desire to create, an artistic affinity for creativity and, as a young woman, moving to Jackson Hole in 1971 with my small family, I brought with me my desire to make art. Getting involved with the local start-up of an Art Association, I taught pottery in the basement of Bean Hill. Now retired, I've enjoyed my involvement with the Teton Plein Air Painters as an opportunity for camaraderie with like-minded friends and to explore and enjoy the intricacies of our environment."

"In 1993, I moved to Jackson having never been here before. Upon arrival, I was invited to join a tour in which local visual and performing arts organizations’ leaders were touring possible sites for a common home - nascent visions of a Center for the Arts. I met Candra Day and Susan Durfee, who represented the Art Association on this tour. Soon after, I visited the Art Association, then located off the alley behind the Club House building. Since that time, my relationship with the Art Association blossomed into collaborative efforts in my professional roles at the National Museum of Wildlife Art and later the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum. I learned to develop and print film crowded into the tiny darkroom at A!A’s Pearl Street location. I took watercolor classes with Fred Kingwill, drawing and other media in the old and new locations, and discovered new friends. I treasure opportunities to nurture that creative part of myself through the Art Association."

"I discovered the Art Association soon after moving to Jackson in the spring of 1988. It hosted events for the Wyoming Arts Council that I attended, and the art fairs were a big attraction as well. I especially loved the exhibits for Arts in the Parks, which hung at the association gallery before moving to Jackson Lake Lodge. After moving to the Center for the Arts, the Art Association’s class offerings and exhibits expanded. Once I retired in 2010 I was able to take advantage of the great variety of art classes available. I have the Art Association to thank for my introduction to artists who have become friends, along with the basics of many art forms, including what has become my favorite, watercolor painting. Making art indeed makes me feel whole. Thank you for being here for our community."

I participated in the 2000 ArtFair and showed my work in the various exhibits A!A organized. I took a few classes. A!A is an amazing venue and a vibrant artistic fiber of our community. We are lucky to have such talented people working for it and offering beautiful opportunities to us all to create, improve, and learn more."

"We are part of nature. We are natural beings. Nature's water flows through us: we cannot live without it. We are physically engaged with Nature every second of every day of our lives, with every breath we draw. Yet in our minds, we mostly see nature as separate from us, as a tool, as a resource, as a gymnasium. In my Hot Art series, called Engage Your Brain, I seek to bridge that gap, to combine Nature's fluid and timeless energy, with our deeper, non-analytical subconscious, opening a two-way flow between our Beta and Gamma mind and the unfathomable essence of that liquid life-force of which we are both fodder and feeder."

"I first became aware of the Art Association in the early 90’s while I participated in Art Fairs across the west for a living. I lived in Portland, Oregon and this was the furthest east I traveled. I learned immediately this Art Association, then led by Karen Stewart, was a cut above many of the other organizations that ran these shows. I returned many times to participate in the summer shows before I finally moved to Jackson in 1997. I have always attributed the Art Association with being the life blood of visual arts in Jackson. They have fostered amateurs and professionals; their shows range from members to international artists. I personally have participated in many many group shows over the years. Now I teach adult classes too, and it’s a blast. I don’t think Jackson would have the grass-roots art spirit it does without it."

"As a practicing artist for most of my life, making, constructing, fabricating, and creating artworks are an integral part of my persona. I have participated in the Art Association's Holiday Bazaar, Arts on the Green, and numerous other arts events over the years. The two prints I have submitted to this exhibit are from my Representational Allusions series. The artworks in this series appear to depict real places in a moment in time. They are fantastic fantasy scenes created to allow the viewer to escape into their own inner worlds to project one's own reactions onto and through the image that provokes some feeling, memory, or wish."

"As an architect with a BArch and MDA from the University of Technology of Sydney, I have always been interested in designing structures on different scales. When I moved to Jackson 5 years ago, I began to work with such noble materials as clay and the ceramic studio at the Art Association was instrumental in learning about this. Initially, I took slip casting and glazing classes, then began using Open Studio which I continue to this day. My current focus is exploring the potential of 3D printing ceramics and nature-driven computational design to create functional sculptures that are both beautiful and useful. I’m particularly interested in creating pieces that blur the lines between art and design.
Making art helps me to tap into my creativity, emotions, and imagination, to bring something new and meaningful into the world. And that, in turn, can help me to feel more connected, more fulfilled, and more alive."

"I started oil painting with a few pointers from an artist around 2003, living here after retiring from medical practice in Los Angeles. But I didn't do much until 2018-9 when I took some Life Drawing courses through the Art Assoc with multiple instructors and learned so much about light and texture; then a few painting courses as well all added ideas and skills. (When covid mutates to a more benign variety, I hope to find some more classes.) I enjoy painting and drawing all living forms- people, animals, nature. Mixing any and all colors from the few basics is the highlight of fun."

"My first memory of the Art Association is that of attending a Christmas bazaar held at the Wort Hotel. I remember a little magical white Christmas tree with a small deer under it. The Art Association and I are the same age. Likely this memory is from about 55 years ago. As an adult, I've taken a weaving class from Doris Florig through the Art Association. One year ago, I read about the Members' Show and had been dreaming of expanding my artistic talents. This led me to join the association and to give myself the challenge of having a piece for the 2023 show. Here I am, one year later, and I am grateful to the Art Association for the opportunity to display my first original landscape rug."

"My husband and I split our time between Wilson and Castle Valley, UT. We are here in late spring, summer, and fall. I am always glad to return north where long time friends reside. This includes my friends and fellow artists at the Art Association and the Teton Plein Air Painters. Jackson abounds in beauty and art. I feel very fortunate to live in a place so supportive of local artists. I have been an artist most of my life, working in pastels, oils, and photography. I have been painting with TPAP for the past seven years. The weekly schedule of being out with a group in beautiful environments has spurred me to create more art. Having lived in several places, I have found that the Jackson Hole Art Association is quite unique in its support and offerings. I am grateful to be associated with such a devoted and creative group."
